Part-Time On-Air Host - KUVO Urban Alternative
Rocky Mountain Public Media, home to Rocky Mountain PBS and KUVO radio, is the largest statewide, member-supported, multi-media network in Colorado. Rocky Mountain Public Media's mission is to strengthen the civic fabric in communities throughout Colorado, engaging audiences through high-quality, trusted programming, community programs and partnerships, and educational initiatives that inform, enlighten and entertain. To further this mission, Rocky Mountain Public Media seeks a part-time On-Air Host.
The On-Air Host plays an integral role in providing support to KUVO's new Urban Alternative radio format. The On-Air Host will represent KUVO Urban Alternative as an on-air personality providing distinctive music, news, and informational programming reflecting the values and cultural diversity of our listener community.
This role will serve as an on-air personality. Position hours range from 2 to 4 hours per shift, must be available Monday-Friday during prime-time shifts (6a-12a), and additional shifts (weekend or fill-in) as required. Provide music insight, related entertainment news, station social media and potential station blog/vlog posts up to date. Personality(ies) will be required to prepare for and be an effective pledge rapper during on-air pledge drives. Interviews guest and moderates' panel or discussion shows to entertain the audience. On-air personalities will promote informational segments, conduct interviews, provide voice-overs for various production elements, conduct ticket giveaways, and conduct EAS test as required. Ensures logged commercials, promotions, sweepers and any other programming element essential to the station's operations are aired. Records interviews with guest, musical or other famous or public personalities, and edits interviews. On-air personalities also must feel comfortable interacting with the public via phone, personal appearances and understand digital media and its various applications. As well as other duties, as assigned.
The On-Air Host must be articulate and able to communicate with a strong on-air presence. Outstanding speaking, oratory ability, organized, and detail-oriented individual. Professional demeanor, friendly, personable, great sense of humor, and excellent customer service skills. Ability to think quickly on one's feet and work independently. Must have at least 2 years on-air experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is desirable.
Knowledge of public broadcasting and non-profit organizations is a plus. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Understands and supports KUVO's mission statement.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of public broadcasting regulations, standards, and practices. Knowledge of music history, including classic hip-hop, rap, urban R&B, Latin genres, history, personalities, and relative culture to appropriately re-enforce the radio station identity and program. This includes: Station call letters, positioning statements, creative hooks, cross-promotion, back sells.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This job operates in the production studio, radio master control studio, and in a professional office setting.
