An Invitation to Colorado Broadcasters
As an associate member of the Colorado Broadcasters Association, I’ve connected with broadcasters statewide and one thing is clear: Colorado radio is at an inflection point.
These aren’t generic markets. From the competitive intensity of Denver to strong local operators across the state, success requires more than a one-size fits all approach. It requires local insight and disciplined strategy.
As a Colorado resident for 30+ years, I’ve worked in the Denver market on-air and in programming, and spent 15 years on the senior management team at Denver-based Jones Radio Networks serving stations nationwide, including Colorado. Today, as owner of Colorado-based Radio Consulting Services, we’ve worked directly with stations in Colorado Springs and Pueblo helping sharpen their positioning and strengthen commercial viability.
What I’m Seeing Even strong stations are facing these issues:
· Aging core demos
· Mature brands losing energy
· Under-leveraged morning shows
· Outdated imaging
· Sales are working harder because the product isn’t as sharp as it could be
Colorado listeners are active, lifestyle-driven, and increasingly selective. They bring expectations from larger markets and from digital platforms. If stations sound stale or dated, they become invisible.
Strategy Over Surface Fixes
We focus on meaningful repositioning, not cosmetic tweaks. This includes:
· Aligning formats with 2026 audience behavior
· Modernizing music architecture
· Strengthening morning shows for ratings and revenue impact
· Tightening brand language and sales positioning
When stations become strategically disciplined and talent-forward, perception shifts and so does revenue potential.
If you’re questioning whether your station is fully optimized for the next five years, it may be time for an objective outside evaluation grounded in Colorado experience. I welcome confidential conversations with owners and GMs who want clarity, direction, and measurable impact.
