Big Week for Broadcast Advocacy
While the CBA was on Capitol Hill last week urging Colorado’s congressional delegation to move the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act to a vote, another major victory emerged for broadcasters. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced the Commission will vote on August 6 to eliminate the outdated national television ownership cap, replacing the decades-old 39% audience reach limit with a case-by-case public interest review. The proposal recognizes what broadcasters have argued for years: local television stations are competing against streaming platforms and digital giants that operate without similar restrictions, and modernizing ownership rules will help stations better invest in local news and serve their communities.
This has been one of the CBA’s longstanding federal advocacy priorities, alongside the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act and modernization of local radio ownership rules. Whether it’s in Washington, D.C., before the FCC, or at the Colorado Capitol, the CBA is making sure Colorado broadcasters have a seat at the table when decisions affecting our industry are made. Your membership and support of the CBA make this advocacy possible. Thank you for investing in a stronger voice for Colorado broadcasting. |

|
The Colorado Broadcasters Association continues to be the unified voice for Colorado broadcasters, and your membership directly powers that work. Over the past year, the CBA helped move the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act closer than ever to becoming law, successfully opposed efforts to impose advertising restrictions through Colorado online gaming legislation, defended government transparency and newsroom access, and expanded programs that strengthen our industry, including the inaugural Colorado Broadcasters Hall of Fame and another record-setting Awards of Excellence.
Your support also makes possible the FCC legal hotline, ABIP inspections, political advertising guidance, sales training, scholarships, and member resources that broadcasters rely on every day. As regulatory, legislative, and economic challenges continue to grow, we encourage you to renew your 2026-2027 membership and invest in the future strength and influence of Colorado broadcasting.

From Colorado to Atlanta: Growing Through NABJ |
|
Congrats to Janelle of KUSA, who was awarded $450.00 from the CBA's Broadcast Education & Development scholarship fund to attend the NABJ 2026 Conference.
Janelle had this to say about receiving a scholarship, "With this scholarship, I have been blessed with the opportunity to focus on refining my craft and growing myself as a journalist. Attending the NABJ Conference in Atlanta will allow me to learn under notable journalists and make industry connections with other dedicated storytellers. After taking part in this conference, I know I will have skills to better my work and share with my colleagues in my newsroom. I am so excited to see how I grow after attending NABJ Atlanta, thanks, in part, to the Colorado Broadcasters Association." |

FCC Advances Modernization of the Emergency Alert System
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a draft Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would modernize the nation’s Emergency Alert System (EAS) while strengthening its cybersecurity and improving the effectiveness of public warnings. This order will be effective 60 days following publication in the Federal Register.
For broadcasters, the most immediate impact is the adoption of targeted cybersecurity requirements designed to protect EAS equipment and associated broadcast infrastructure from unauthorized access. |
