Thu, Sep 29 from 10:00am to 11:00am

On September 29th  at 10:00 a.m. the CBA invites Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth’s legal eagles, Karyn Ablin and Frank Montero to discuss broadcasters’ financial obligations for the musical compositions and recordings they play over the air and in their webcasts and podcasts.  You will learn the differences between the royalties you pay for broadcasting, webcasting, and podcasting and why podcasting music presents special challenges.

Karyn and Frank will walk you through how the royalties you pay to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and new upstart Global Music (GMR) are determined and how your royalty payments to SoundExchange changed from 2020 to 2021. Discussion will include the appeals that broadcasters and SoundExchange have brought to challenge those changes, and the Radio Music License Committee’s recent settlement with GMR.

Also learn how SoundExchange differs from ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR, whether you owe royalties to SoundExchange and, if so, how those royalties are determined.   Further, they will discuss the pitfalls of inaction for not staying on top of these obligations.

Registration Deadline: 9/26/2022 at 5:00p.m.
