The ideal candidate will help us oversee and improve the news planning process of daily news coverage, big events, court cases, and breaking news.

DUTIES:

  • Work in conjunction with the Assignment Desk and the AM Show planner to prepare for upcoming calendar items.
  • Organize and Lead a Daily Planning meeting with Newsroom managers.
  • Organize and Lead a Weekly Planning meeting with Newsroom managers.
  • Participate and contribute to Daily Editorial meetings.  
  • Enterprise unique stories for our Problem Solvers brand and incoming news tips.
  • Oversee and work in conjunction with the Assignment Desk to keep upcoming Court Docket stories current.
  • Digital Contributor
    • Identify and set up unique stories that will play well on our robust digital platforms.
    • Mine digital newscasts for stories that will play well on broadcast platforms
    • Write and Contribute stories to our digital platforms
    • Write and Contribute push alerts to our digital platforms
  • Provide research assistance and book interviews for field crews as needed.
  • Track anniversaries for large news stories using our Daybook News System.
  • Identify and book significant one-on-one interviews with national and regional figures.
  • Populate and maintain a list of Evergreen stories.
  • Develop contacts in the community to advance news story opportunities.
  • Work with Assignment Manager to anticipate staffing needs for daily coverage.
  • Oversee and coordinate with AM Show Executive Producers to develop good, news-worthy segments to air in the morning show and identify segments that will play across all the newscasts.
  • Lead Special Event coverage planning:  Elections, Political Shows, Town Halls etc.
  • Be prepared to fill-in on the Assignment Desk as needed.
  • Work with Reporters on their End of Shift Reports and note follow ups to those stories.

DESIRED TRAITS: 

Our Planning Editor needs to be highly organized journalist, work well in a team environment, show curiosity, solid news judgment and a passion for beating the competition.  Knowledge of Daybook, BitCentral and ENPS are a plus.

Pay range for this role is $55-65 annual base on experience, skills and knowledge.
