Helping Broadcasters Sound Better, Grow Bigger, and Stay Local |

Helping Broadcasters Sound Better, Grow Bigger, and Stay Local
As one of CBAâs Premium Associate Members, Jon Holiday of Radio Consulting Services brings deep industry expertise and a hands-on approach thatâs helping broadcasters across the country level up their programming, branding, and audience connection.
After 15 years at Jones Radio Networks (now Westwood One) in Denver, Jon launched his own venture when the networkâs consulting department was dissolved. What began as Jon Holiday Consulting soon evolved into Radio Consulting Servicesâa company designed to go beyond traditional consulting models.
âRadio Consulting Services is both a programming services company and a consulting and research firm,â Jon explains. âThat means we donât just make recommendationsâwe help stations execute them, every day.â
That dual focus is part of what sets the company apart. With over 100 stations servedâfrom Alaska and Hawaii to Canada and even New ZealandâJonâs approach is flexible, scalable, and rooted in results. Whether youâre a mom-and-pop station or a mid-sized group, in a rated or unrated market, Radio Consulting Services offers tools that make an immediate impact.
From music scheduling and programming overhauls to branding strategy and audience research, the company covers the full spectrum. Many clients start with one service, then expand as new opportunities emerge. âWe recently worked with a Classic Rock station that transitioned from a 24/7 syndicated format to local programming,â Jon shares. âWe helped with branding and staffing, and they debuted at #2 in their first ratings book. Thatâs the kind of result we love to deliver.â
Jon sees a renewed emphasis on local personalities and community-driven content as major trends in todayâs radio landscape, while staffing and talent retention remain key challenges across departments.
His advice for Colorado broadcasters looking to refresh their sound or grow their reach?
¡ Be visible. âYour audience needs to see and hear from youâthrough events, email blasts, community partnerships, social presence and local appearances.â
¡ Be focused. âMake sure your music, personalities, and branding are aligned with the audience you want to serve.â

FCC Shutdown! Take Steps to Protect Your Station
The government shutdown continues and the FCC's website has been down as well. Extensions on FCC deadlines will be limited and come fast once the shutdown ends.
If the FCC web site is not working on October 10th. prepare a memorandum stating that you had the document ready on the deadline, attempted to upload, but the system was down and take screenshots if possible. Save the memorandum for future use in uploading and for reference when your stationâs license renewal application is filed. When the FCCâs system is eventually up and running, upload the issues-programs list for the 3rd Quarter along with your brief memorandum.
