Representative Hurd joins Reps. Crank, Crow, Evans, Neguse and Pettersen in supporting free and accessible public safety communications for Coloradans.
With Tesla’s recent announcement of their removal of FM radios from 2026 Tesla models Broadcasters must be vigilant and encourage the constituents of Reps. Boebert and DeGette to ask them to support the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act.

Fall Broadcaster Maintenance Reminders
from John Baich, SECC Chair
As we enter the winter months, a few key maintenance tasks deserve attention. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:00 a.m., when clocks “fall back” one hour. While most equipment synchronizes automatically through NTP servers, some legacy or non-IP devices do not. Confirm that transmitter logs are properly timestamped, automation systems align with on-air operations, and EAS units reference the correct time. Cybersecurity should also remain a top priority—ensure all on-air and support devices such as EAS decoders, AoIP systems, automation, and transmitter remote controls are protected behind a maintained firewall, use updated passwords, and have healthy internal memory batteries.
Operational readiness extends to physical systems as well. HVAC units face extreme swings between freezing nights and warm fall afternoons, so inspect filters, controls, and glycol levels for consistent performance, and check seals and ventilation fans at remote sites. Test batteries in UPS units and generators for charge, fluid levels, and corrosion-free connections, and top off fuel tanks before winter weather limits access. Rodent control is critical, as they’re drawn indoors to warm racks filled with soy-based wiring insulation. Finally, inspect satellite antenna heaters, lubricate jacks, secure feed-horn covers, and test antenna deicers now—before VSWR becomes a conversation with your GM. |

FCC Shutdown! Take Steps to Protect Your Station
The Commission has announced that most filing deadlines will be extended to the next business day following the resumption of normal FCC operations. Expect delays and possible FCC site outages as broadcasters rush to file their paperwork.
Reports are that the ETRS site is the only section that appears to be working. If you still haven't filed an updated Form One (due on October 3rd) get that done.
Since the FCC web site was not online on October 10th be sure to have a memorandum stating that you had the document ready at deadline, attempted to upload, but the system was down and take screenshots if possible. Save the memorandum for future use in uploading and for reference when your station’s license renewal application is filed. When the FCC’s system is eventually up and running, upload the issues-programs list for the 3rd Quarter along with your brief memorandum.
