Biography

Richard “Dick” Maynard is a pioneering Colorado broadcaster whose career spans more than six decades of radio excellence, leadership, and innovation. In 1984, he co-founded Jan-Di Broadcasting, launching KEKB-FM in Grand Junction during an economic downturn and turning it into one of the most successful small-market country stations in the nation. Under his direction, KEKB’s morning program “Heller and Maynard: The Breakfast Flakes” achieved a record-setting 48 share in Adults 25–54, earning multiple Colorado Broadcasters Association (CBA) Station of the Year awards, Country Music Association honors, and recognition as one of America’s most listened-to morning shows. Maynard expanded his broadcasting portfolio with the creation of KBKL-FM (KOOL 107.9) in 1996 and the acquisition of KMXY-FM (Mix 104.3) in 1998, forming a powerhouse trio that defined Western Colorado radio.

Beyond his on-air success, Maynard’s influence extended throughout the industry and community. He served as President of the Colorado Broadcasters Association in 1995, Interim Director in 1999, and on the National Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors from 1995 to 1998. His leadership earned him the Country Music Association’s General Manager of the Year award in 1990 and the CBA’s prestigious Rex Howell Broadcaster of the Year award in 1997. A lifelong supporter of civic engagement, Maynard has contributed to numerous organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, United Way Board, Colorado Mesa University Advisory Board, and more than four decades with the National Junior College World Series. His career reflects a lasting legacy of innovation, integrity, and service to Colorado broadcasting.
