DENVER, CO – [May 15, 2025] – The Colorado Broadcasters Association (CBA) is proud to announce the appointment of John J. Baich as its new Alternative Broadcast Inspector, a role designed to ensure that Colorado’s broadcasters continue to operate at the highest standards of technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
A veteran of the broadcast industry with an illustrious 48-year career, Baich brings a wealth of expertise and hands-on experience to the position. His career began in 1976 as an engineer at WJRT-TV in Flint/Saginaw/Bay City, Michigan, where he quickly developed a deep passion for broadcasting. Over the years, Baich has worked in various technical roles across the country, including notable positions as Vice President of Engineering & Operations at Fox Television Stations in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Indiana. His work has touched nearly every facet of broadcast engineering, from technical operations and maintenance to RF systems and tower management.
“I am excited to join the Colorado Broadcasters Association in this new role,” Baich said. “Broadcasting has been my life’s work, and I’m eager to contribute to Colorado’s vibrant broadcast community, ensuring that stations continue to meet and exceed the technical standards necessary for quality programming and community service.”
Baich’s extensive experience includes overseeing major engineering projects such as the rebuild of the tallest guyed tower in the Colorado Rockies and managing the transition of several television stations from analog to digital. His commitment to excellence earned him the prestigious 1992-3 Heartland and Regional Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Engineering Achievement for his work on the Bolder Boulder broadcast.
As an advocate for both technical precision and public service, Baich is also the current Chair of the Colorado State Emergency Communications Committee. In his new role with CBA’s Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP), he will oversee the inspection process that helps Colorado broadcasters stay in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and enhances their ability to provide critical services to their communities, especially in times of emergency.
“John’s deep understanding of the technical and operational demands of broadcasting, combined with his leadership in the broadcast industry, makes him an ideal fit for the role of ABIP Inspector,” said Justin Sasso, President and CEO of the Colorado Broadcasters Association. “His wealth of experience will be invaluable in helping CBA ensure that our members continue to meet the highest industry standards.”
In addition to his technical expertise, Baich is known for his hands-on approach and his commitment to mentorship, having managed numerous teams and fostered the development of emerging engineers throughout his career. With his official retirement in 2024, Baich looks forward to contributing his knowledge and passion for broadcasting in this new capacity.
The Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program (ABIP), provided by the CBA, is a unique opportunity for broadcasters in Colorado to receive proactive, in-depth inspections to ensure they are in compliance with FCC rules and regulations, reducing the risk of penalties and enhancing their operational efficiency.
